PUNE EATS: SHISHA JAZZ CAFE
The whole of Bombay descends to Pune for NH7 Weekender this weekend so I thought it would be apt to recommend Pune's loveliest restaurant to everybody. Actually if there is a restaurant on this planet more lovely than Shisha Cafe I haven't been to it. Marble, glass and wooden table tops, bentwood chairs, mosaic flooring, persian rugs and lots of greenery make up the decor of this atmospheric Indo-Iranian restaurant.
They play soft jazz (loud jazz on Thursday nights and during their annual Jazz Fest) and the lighting is either magical or moody and I can’t think of anywhere that’s as comfortable to put your feet up - literally that is. Pick your favourite diwan and order a sekanjabin (mint mocktail), a platter of kebabs, the zereshk polo (a chicken and berry pilaf) and an interesting dessert like rangineh (dates tossed with whole wheat, cinnamon and sugar) with icecream and pots of hot Iranian tea.
You will love all of it.
Sidenote: Shisha Café International Jazz Fest' 2014 runs between 26th and 28th October. For more details, check out the event page on Facebook.
