AN IDEAL BOY
If you live in India and haven’t heard of Adarsh Balak, you have had to be living under a rock. Five months ago, Mumbai artist Priyesh Trivedi began to publish artworks of An Ideal Boy with his own subversive twist, and sparked a viral sensation.
Last week Priyesh completed a commissioned 24 x 4 foot indoor mural at a Pune cafe, bar and music venue made up of five fun, distinctive pieces and I got an early glimpse. Given an open brief by the owner who wanted him check out the place and take inspiration from what he liked, the mural adequately reflects the Pune institution and Priyesh’s own style and sense of humour. Indeed, inspiration was derived from everything from his musical tastes to the Full Moon Party and the Sunday Cookout to his appreciation for the staff. Over four weeks, the pro-cannabis, pro-LGBT rights, anarchy-loving artist applied his signature motifs, technique and careful detailing to the mural, his biggest work of art yet.
